Immediate availability for the reconversion. Reconversion time=14 months Original Vessel New Build VS PSV Reconversion. While the SUPERYACHT AND LARGE EXPEDITION CRUISE SHIP categories…Read More have been conceived as new construction, the category SMALL EXPEDITION has both the opportunity to be built as the result of a conversion of a standard Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) or a brand new construction. Contingencies in the oil industry, have resulted in the availability of several supply vessels offered in the sale market at very interesting prices. Due to the particular configuration of the layout, the Supply Vessel is a very suitable platform for a conversion. The typical PSV configuration, in fact, is based on a forward superstructure occupied by the crew space and the engine trunk. The remaining 2/3 of the main deck is fully free. This configuration is suitable for the positioning of a new superstructure above the aft 2/3 of the vessel which is dedicated to the guest cabins and common areas. Mostly none of the original superstructure is affected by the conversion unless covered with new elements, resulting in a cost saving during construction. This approach is preferable to converting an old cruise ship due to the following factors: • PSV conversion only requires addition of structure, very limited demolition and rebuild of sections • There are PSV’s on the market with only a couple years of service containing the latest technology, machinery and drive systems. Furthermore, and notably relevant, the build time of a new build cruise ship can range between 3 – 4 years depending on the vessel and shipyard whilst a conversion project is likely to be realised within 18 – 24 months with a better control of delivery time moment into the market. The available PSV offer the opportunity to build the small capacity cruise ships (108-120 passengers) at around 20% less than a brand new ship. Positioning in the market. These cruise ships are addressed…Read More to those cruise operators which are positioned or are willing to expand in the SMALL EXPEDITION LUXURY CRUISE SHIP. Yacht Size. The size is dictated by three numbers…Read More • A limited number of passengers to ensure the exclusivity of the cruise and the facility to perform the daily guest expeditions. • The large availability in the market of young PSV at very low prices • The limited size to keep a profitable ratio between PRICE/PRODUCTIVITY UNIT Building Cost. The selection of PSV platform in respect of any other second hand cruise liner is…Read More the possibility to apply a brand new superstructure on top of the PSV reducing to the minimum the amount of demolitions. The new superstructure is designed as a modular unit replicated to reduce costs due to customized parts.
